Luton Town were beaten 3-0 by Stoke City as Nathan Jones had a return to forget on his first visit back to the Bet365 Stadium.
Nick Powell scored a goal in each half before Steven Fletcher added a third late on as Stoke saw off the side from Bedfordshire.
The result was back-to-back defeats for the Hatters, who were beaten at home by Cardiff City in midweek, and the side drop a place to 16th in the Championship table. They are 6 points above the relegation zone and 12 points off the play-offs.
Jones had a difficult spell as Stoke manager in 2019, winning six from 38 matches as Potters boss, but he arrived hoping to grab Luton’s second consecutive away win after they won at Birmingham last weekend.
Stoke would see Powell fire over within the opening 20 seconds, before Luton’s first chance saw Glen Rea headed wide.
The opening goal for Stoke came after 20 minutes, when a mistake by Sonny Bradley allowed Fletcher to pick up the ball and release Powell, who rolled the ball into an empty net.
Harry Cornick saw a shot go wide shortly afterwards, while Jordan Clark had a shot blocked in the final moments of the first half.
Stoke started the second half brightly, with Harry Souttar denied by Simon Sluga before the Croatian keeper later had to deny Joe Allen.
Clark did have a strike go just wide, and another fired straight at Angus Gunn.
But Stoke would soon have a second goal just after the hour, as Powell outjumped James Bree to meet Allen’s cross and head past the goalkeeper.
Stoke’s third would then come with 12 minutes to play, after a defensive mix-up released Sam Clucas, who played in Fletcher to roll into an empty net, in a similar style to the opening goal.
Luton’s afternoon could’ve been even worse, with a Clucas lob bouncing wide before Sluga denied subs Sam Vokes and James McClean, but they were ultimately beaten on their trip to Staffordshire.
