Luton midfielder Joe Morrell registered an assist in Wales’ Euro 2020 opener against Switzerland.

Morrell’s free-kick was glanced in by Cardiff frontman Kieffer Moore to score a 74th minute equaliser for Wales in a 1-1 draw with the Swiss in the Azerbaijan capital Baku in their opening game of Group A.

The 24-year-old Luton midfielder would play the whole 90 minutes of the match, operating in midfield as part of a 4-3-3 formation selected by Wales manager Rob Page.

This game is Morrell’s 16th cap for the Welsh national team.

Meanwhile, his Luton team-mate Tom Lockyer would be an unused substitute for Wales, as would former Luton man Rhys Norrington-Davies.

Switzerland scored first in the Group A opener, with Breel Embolo heading in a corner shortly after half-time.

In the other match, Italy beat Turkey 3-0 in their Group A opener at the Olympic Stadium in Rome in the tournament opener yesterday evening (11/06).

Wales’ second game will see the team play Turkey in Baku on Wednesday afternoon.
