Northampton Town have confirmed the double signing of goalkeeper Liam Roberts and midfielder Jordan Flores.

26-year-old goalkeeper Roberts has signed a one year contract after moving from Walsall, while 25-year-old midfielder Flores arrives on a season long loan from Hull City.

Roberts was the first of the two signings to be confirmed, with the goalkeeper moving to Northampton for an undisclosed fee.

The goalkeeper has moved after making nearly 150 appearances in all competitions for the side from the West Midlands, whose academy he graduated from.

Speaking to the official Northampton Town website, Northampton manager Jon Brady said he viewed Roberts as an important part of his squad ahead of the new campaign.

He said, “Liam arrives with plenty of League 1 and League 2 experience behind him.

“On top of that he is a good age and he has the potential to improve further.

“He has been the number one at his previous club for most of the last four seasons, he has got a good amount of games under his belt and he has turned in some excellent performances in that time.

“Liam is another important part of our squad in place as we move towards pre-season training.”

The signing of Flores was confirmed later in the day. The 25-year-old became the Cobblers’ first loan capture, and sixth overall after the signings of Dylan Connolly, Nicke Kabamba, Paul Lewis, Mitch Pinnock and Roberts.

Flores began his career at Wigan, but came to wider attention after moving to Ireland to play for Dundalk. While there, he scored against Arsenal in the Europa League, received a FIFA Puskas Award nomination for a wondergoal, and won several trophies, before joining Hull in January 2021.

Brady said, “Jordan is a very technical player who we believe will fit in well with us.

“He is left footed and that balance is important for us and he is a different type of player to the other midfielders we have here.

“He is very creative, he can open teams up and his record shows he has a goal in him, and a spectacular one at that.

“He is another one who I think the supporters will enjoy watching. He is a good character and someone we are delighted to bring to the club.”
