MK Dons have confirmed a pre-season friendly against Chelmsford City has been cancelled.

An MK Dons 11 largely composed of academy and young professionals was due to travel to face the National League South side in Essex on Monday (19/07), against a Clarets team now managed by former MK Dons striker Robbie Simpson.

However, MK Dons have announced that self-isolation requirements mean some academy players cannot take part in the game, and with the first team unavailable, the game at Chelmsford’s EMG Inspire Stadium will be cancelled.

MK Dons said, “Due to Covid-19 protocols, Monday’s friendly between an MK Dons XI and Chelmsford City has been cancelled.

“This is due to members of the MK Dons Academy having to self-isolate.

“With the first-team based in St. George’s Park, the MK Dons XI was to be made up of Academy players and young professionals.

“The Club wishes to make clear that the first-team squad is not affected and will travel to St. George’s Park, as planned, on Monday.”

In a statement, Chelmsford City said, “The Dons side had been due to travel to the EMG Inspire Stadium for an 8pm kick-off, however, will no longer be due to the MK Dons academy following Covid-19 protocols regarding self-isolation.

“With their first team based at St. George’s Park, the MK Dons XI was to be made up of academy players and young professionals.

“All supporters that have already purchased tickets for the game through Ticketpass will be refunded.”
