Northampton Town were beaten 2-0 by Nottingham Forest as their pre-season schedule continued.

Second goals by Lyle Taylor and Cafu saw the Championship side win at Sixfields, and although Northampton created some chances, the team were edged out by their opponents.

On a tropically hot Tuesday night at the ground, the Cobblers were still missing players due to covid-induced self-isolation requirements, but they began on the attack.

Northampton would come close when Mitch Pinnock fired wide, before the home goalkeeper Liam Roberts was forced into action to keep out Alex Mighten.

A great chance fell for Northampton later in the half, when striker Nick Kabamba saw a header tipped onto the bar by Jordan Smith.

Smith then also kept out Jordan Flores, although Northampton’s momentum was checked by the loss of Benny Ashley-Seal to injury.

Forest opened the scoring shortly into the second-half, as substitute Taylor rounded Roberts before finishing.

Joe Lolley then fired wide but Northampton came close again when substitute Caleb Chukwuemeka saw one shot go wide before a goal by the same man was disallowed.

But Cafu wrapped up the scoring after that, with the away midfielder lashing in a drive from outside the box.

Northampton would have some scattered chances thereafter, but were unable to grab a goal back as the away side closed things out.
