Northampton Town have confirmed the signing of left-back Ali Koiki, who has arrived after a initial trial with the League Two outfit.
The 21-year-old, who turns 22 in August, has signed a one year contract. He is Northampton’s 11th new signing ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Koiki was available after being released by Bristol Rovers, who were relegated alongside Northampton from League One last season.
The London-born defender began his professional career with Burnley, before making a loan move to Swindon Town in 2019. He spent last season with Bristol Rovers after leaving Burnley, making 13 appearances in all competitions and scoring his first professional goal in a Papa John’s Trophy clash with Leyton Orient.
Koiki featured for Northampton as a trialist during their midweek friendly against Championship outfit Nottingham Forest.
The Cobblers’ manager Jon Brady voiced his delight at getting the deal done in remarks to the club’s official site.
He said, “He has an excellent attitude, he is in good shape physically and he has settled well in to the group.
“It is important to have depth in the squad and to have competition and Ali certainly brings that to the left back position.
“His main priority is of course the defensive side of the game but he can also attack from full back and that is important.
“He has experience of playing in both League 1 and League 2 and I know Ali is excited by the challenge of joining Northampton Town.”
