The organisers of the annual fireworks display and funfair in Campbell Park in Milton Keynes have announced the 2021 event will be cancelled.

Having been cancelled in 2020, the organisers have now announced the planned 2021 event is not going to take place.

Organisers Keith Emmett and Sons shared the news in an update on social media on Saturday (25/09), with the company blaming the decision to cancel on the ongoing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

The social media update confirmed that the decision to cancel the two events was made following consultation with Milton Keynes Council and The Parks Trust, with irreconcilable issues preventing the event from going ahead.

The statement read, “The decision has been made to cancel this year’s Funfair & Firework Spectacular due to ongoing concerns and uncertainty around Covid.

“The cancellation of the Funfair & Fireworks for a second year running during the current pandemic has been a very difficult decision to make. The event is enjoyed by over 100,000 spectators of all ages every year and is an important part of the Milton Keynes event calendar.

“After extensive conversations with Milton Keynes Council and The Parks Trust, the decision was based on a range of issues, including national guidance advice from experts in public health and event planning along with financial viability.

“The event will be reassessed in 2022.”

Adding to the statement, Keith Emmett Junior said, “We know this will be disappointing for very many people but we think it is the safest thing to do. Due to the amount of people the event attracts, residents, health and public safety have to come first.”
