Northampton Town will host League One side Cambridge United in the First Round of the FA Cup.

The match at Sixfields was drawn from today’s (17/10) FA Cup First Round draw live on ITV, and will see a Cobblers team relegated from League 1 to League 2 last season face a side that made the opposite journey up the football pyramid.

Cambridge sit 18th in the League One table, with Mark Bonner’s side winning 3 of their opening 11 games in their first season back in the third tier of English football since 2002.

The two teams did meet in pre-season back in July, with a 0-0 draw being played out at Cambridge’s Abbey Stadium one week before the start of the new season.

Northampton last faced Cambridge in a competitive fixture in League 2 in October 2019, with the Cobblers recording a 2-0 win over Cambridge at Sixfields.

Last season, Northampton failed to make it beyond the First Round, after a 2-1 away defeat by non-league side Oxford City.

The tie will be played on the weekend around Saturday November 6th, with a specific date and kick-off time to be announced in due course.
