Brackley Town’s hopes of reaching the FA Cup First Round proper were ended after a 2-1 defeat to Guiseley in a fourth qualifying round replay.
The Saints were beaten in Yorkshire in a replay on Tuesday night (19/10) after a draw in the original meeting at Brackley’s St James’ Park ground the previous weekend.
The game winner came from Lebrun Mbeka in the final ten minutes of normal time. Lee Ndlovu had equalised Lewis Hey’s early opener, while Brackley also missed a penalty. The home side did have George Cantrill sent off late on, but the home side held on to win the tie.
It means Guiseley will travel to face League One side AFC Wimbledon in the full First Round of the tournament, while the Saints’ hopes of matching recent runs into the full FA Cup are over.
Guiseley scored first when Hey scored the rebound after a Jordan Thewlis effort had failed to go into the back of the net.
Brackley had won a penalty just before the half hour mark, only for Matt Lowe to fire it wide.
The away side’s equaliser came in the second half, after Ndlovu broke through before beating Luke Jackson in a one-on-one.
The home side had the better opportunities to win it before eventually striking in the 83rd minute, when Mbeka turned in Hey’s free-kick.
Guisely had Cantrill dismissed for two yellow cards with the second shown a few minutes after their second goal, but the home side saw the job out to knock Brackley out of the FA Cup at the final hurdle before the First Round proper.
