Luton Town suffered a 1-0 defeat by Stoke City as they fell out of the Championship’s top six.
The Hatters had moved into the play-off zones with victory over Middlesbrough in midweek, but were jumped in the table by Michael O’Neill’s Potters.
Jacob Brown scored the game’s only goal just after the half hour, with the player celebrating his first call up to the Scotland squad with the goal.
Luton struggled to create much in response as they suffered a second defeat in third games, and they will spend the international break in 11th position in the Championship table after Nathan Jones suffered defeat to his former club.
The hosts had nearly made an early positive start when Josef Bursik intercepting a Harry Cornick strike after Cornick failed to make clean contact.
Stoke began to offer more as the first half continued. Leon Ostigard saw a snapshot blocked by Gabe Osho on the line after Luton failed to fully clear a corner.
Not long after, Stoke took the lead. Romaine Sawyers broke down the flank before crossing for Brown to fire past Simon Sluga and put the visitors ahead.
Luton’s best opportunity for a first half equaliser came when Elijah Adebayo had an angled drive denied by Bursik.
Cornick headed wide just after half-time before Luton’s single best chance to equalise came with just under 25 minutes left to play, as substitute Admiral Muskwe met Fred Onyedinma’s cross only to hit the bar.
Stoke nearly made sure when Sluga had to tip away a Mario Vrancic that threatened to end up in goal. But after that, Luton struggled to go anywhere and the game ended up with Stoke seeing things through.
Luton will seek to bounce back on Friday November 19th after the international break, as they take on QPR away from home in a match live on TV.
