Northampton Town have confirmed the signing of Idris Kanu on loan for the rest of the season from Peterborough United.

The 22-year-old has moved down the Nene Valley upon his return from the African Cup of Nations, where he represented Sierra Leone.

Kanu joined Peterborough from Aldershot Town in 2017, with the attacker having come through the academy at West Ham United.

He scored twice in 25 appearances in all competitions last season as Peterborough won promotion from League One to the Championship, though he managed just six so far in the current campaign.

Northampton manager Jon Brady told the official website that he felt he had picked a good new addition for his squad.

He said, “Idris is a creative player who is direct, he can travel with the ball and he has pace.

“He can be a threat at the top of the pitch or out wide and can play in more than one attacking position with the ability to create chances.

“He can be tricky to handle for defenders and he is an explosive player who can make things happen.

“Over the last 12 months he has had experience of both League 1 and the Championship and we think he will prove a good addition for us.”
