Brackley Town’s season will be extended to the play-offs as Gateshead took the National League North title.

The Saints’ hopes of automatic promotion were ended over the Bank Holiday weekend, as one point from two games against Blyth Spartans and Hereford allowed the side from the North East to wrap up the title.

Gateshead confirmed the title and their promotion to the National League on the Bank Holiday Monday, with a 2-2 draw against Chorley enough to confirm the side will return to the 5th tier.

Victory over Gateshead in early April had seen Brackley move level on points with Gateshead at the top of the National League North table, but a run of 1 win in their last 5 has seen Brackley beaten to the title by Mike Williamson’s side.

Ahead of the last game of the regular season on Saturday (07/05), Brackley have guaranteed a second place finish. Along with 3rd place AFC Fylde, they are guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals.

They will face the winners of a play-off between the teams in 5th and 6th, which will mean Brackley will host either Chorley or York City on May 14th in their final four contest. The two teams will play their heat on May 11th.
