Defender Aden Baldwin has signed for National League side Notts County following his departure from Milton Keynes Dons.

The former Bristol City defender was released by MK Dons at the end of the season, and the 25-year-old will move to Meadow Lane on a free transfer on July 1st.

Baldwin has signed a two year contract with the Magpies, who are now under the management of former MK Dons coach Luke Williams.

Williams, who was with the Dons when Baldwin was signed a year ago, was confirmed as Notts County Head Coach last week. The 41-year-old will be assisted by former MK Dons midfielder Ryan Harley, while former Dons defender Adam Chicksen is also a part of the Magpies squad.

Baldwin made 16 appearances in all competitions in his single season in Milton Keynes, but struggled for game time due to the form of others and his own injury issues, and the club announced he would not be retained when the relevant list was published.

Williams told the official Notts County website that he suggested Baldwin as an option to bring to the club.

He said, “I recognised really strong qualities in him and I wanted him to embrace that responsibility – which he has done.

“We worked together again at MK Dons and he was outstanding last pre-season but had Harry Darling who has just made a big move to the Championship, Dean Lewington who is one-of-a-kind and Warren O’Hora who had an incredible season just in front of him, so it’s no disgrace that Aden didn’t play as much as he would have liked.

“He very much held his own in that group and now has a great opportunity to establish himself, play lots of games and perform to a high level.

“I put Aden forward as an option but that wasn’t the end of it – he was then analysed by several different people to make sure we were all confident he was a good fit for the club.

“We all agreed that he is exactly the sort of player we’re looking for and then made our approach.”
