Luton Town have confirmed the signing of Alfie Doughty from fellow Championship side Stoke City.

The 22-year-old left-sided midfielder arrives at Kenilworth Road for an undisclosed fee, with Doughty signing a contract of undisclosed length with the side from Bedfordshire.

The move was Luton’s first confirmed signing of the transfer window when announced yesterday (20/06), though he was since joined by Cauley Woodrow earlier today (21/06).

Doughty began his career at Charlton Athletic, making his senior debut in 2018 in a Carabao Cup tie against MK Dons.

After a loan spell with Kingstonian, Doughty returned to become a regular in the Charlton first team in the Championship in the 2019/20 season, and he had begun the 2020/21 season also in the first team only to lose his place after injury.

In January 2021, Doughty joined Stoke City, but struggled for game-time, spending the second half of the season just completed with Cardiff City.

Doughty told the official Luton Town website of his delight to make the move to Kenilworth Road.

He said, “I’m very excited to be a Luton player. It is a fresh start and I want to get started straight away.

“Over the last few years, getting top half the year before and then top six last year, you can tell the team is just getting better and better, and that is definitely one of the reasons why I’m here.”
