MK Dons will take on League 2 side Sutton United at home in the First Round of the Carabao Cup.

The Dons will host the side from South London in a tie to take place in the week beginning August 8th 2022. This will take place between a home game against Sheffield Wednesday and a trip to Ipswich Town.

The draw was conducted live on TV, and was the latest part of a busy day of fixture announcements for the 2022/23 season, with the League One schedule and Papa John’s Trophy group stage draw also being made.

MK Dons’ opponents are about to partake in only their second ever EFL season, having been promoted to the top 4 tiers for the first time in 2021.

Sutton United impressed in their first campaign as an EFL club in 2021/22, finishing 8th in the league and missing out on a play-off spot by 1 point, as well as reaching the final of the Papa John’s Trophy.

Last season, the Dons’ interest in the Carabao Cup was over as soon as it started, as the team were beaten by Bournemouth 5-0 in what turned out to be Russell Martin’s last game as manager.

MK Dons’ best performance in the competition came when they reached Round 4 in the 2014/15 season, famously knocking out Manchester United along the way.

A further announcement on specific kick-off date and match tickets will be made in due course.
