Luton extend League 2 lead by beating Morecambe
Luton Town have moved 6 points clear at the top of League Two after beating Morecambe at Kenilworth Road.
Although the Hatters lost top scorer Danny Hylton to an injury inside the opening ten minutes, a second half goal from Johnny Mullins saw Nathan Jones’ side bounce back from a defeat at Chesterfield last time out.
With Notts County beaten at home by Exeter City, the result means the Hatters open up a gap at the top of the table on second place. They also hold an 8 point gap on 3rd place Accrington Stanley and 4th place Wycombe.
Mullins scored the only goal just after the hour, with the home side’s skipper getting the necessary touch to divert Olly Lee’s free-kick into the back of the Morecambe net.
A first half of few chances saw Luke Berry and Glen Rea hit efforts off target. Morecambe had created stronger chances either side of the break, with Marek Stech called into action to keep out Aaron McGown and two Adam McGurk efforts, while Luton would also miss a couple of late chances to win the match by a greater margin.
