Liverpool defender Lloyd Jones is set to make a deadline day switch to League Two side Luton Town, according to reports.

The Liverpool Echo claims Jones, 22, will make a permanent move away from Anfield after failing to break into the first team.

He was named on the bench once during Brendan Rodgers’ spell at the club, an away game at Fulham in May 2013.

Jones has spent a lot of his career out on loan at Football League clubs including Plymouth Argyle, Cheltenham and Blackpool.

And now according to the local Liverpool newspaper he is finally set to depart permanently with Nathan Jones hoping a deal can be completed before the transfer deadline at 11pm tomorrow night.

Other reports claim Plymouth could enter the bidding for the player they previously had on loan at Home Park and who was born in the town, but they would only be interested in a loan move.

Jones’ contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the season so they are hoping a permanent switch can be sealed. Championship and Scottish Premiership sides are also said to be interested.

The defender featured in Liverpool U23s’ 1-0 win over Derby County at the weekend.
