Cobblers see unbeaten run ended in Rochdale defeat
Northampton Town saw their unbeaten start to 2018 ended by a 1-0 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Rochdale.
Calvin Andrew scored the game’s only goal, as the visitors won their first league game since November and their first away league match of the season.
Rochdale had the better of the first half chances, with Richard O’Donnell forced into stops to keep out a Callum Camps effort from the halfway line, and a shot from Mark Kitching.
Northampton had chances from a handful of set-pieces but couldn’t find a way through, and Rochdale continued their ascendancy after half-time, with the visitors scoring 8 minutes into the second half.
The ball was worked out wide to Matt Done, who evaded his marker then flung in a cross that Andrew tapped in.
Northampton were unable to create many chances to get back into the contest, and the visitors were duly able to hold on to take the points. With Oldham beating Bradford, the result means Northampton now find themselves just a point above the relegation places in League One.
